This little project has been on my to-do list since fall.

Bird seed hearts! The heart shape happens to be the only cookie cutter I have. It's fitting with the time of year though. Isn't it?

You will need:
4 cups bird seed
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons of corn syrup

I mixed my flour, water, and syrup together in a measuring cup.

Then added that to the bowl of bird seed.
Stir well coating all of the bird seed. It will be a gooey mess.

1. Press bird seed mixture into the heart shape on a wax paper lined cookie sheet. I pressed spoonfuls of the mixture into the heart shape with the back of the spoon.
2. Place a straw where you want a hole to hang it.
3. Lift off the cookie cutter carefully.

Spraying the cookie cutter with cooking spray makes it slide right off.

I am impatient so I placed my bird seed cookies into the oven on the lowest setting(170 degrees) for about an hour. Flipping them over about half way through. Worked like a charm. Otherwise you can let them air dry for at least 6 hours.

They turned out super cute and were easy to make.

Made Christmas shapes for our tree, and the best part is after we will be able to put them out for the birds! I also made some with a different colored seed, then alternated them in cookie bags for small gifts!
I made these with my kids for Earth day and it was so much fun we are making them with my Girl Scout troop today for Mother's day!
