Coffee Sleeve

This is something I have wanted to do but I hate to sew. Better yet, sewing hates me. Once I read THIS I knew it was something I could totally do! Plus I had everything on hand. I didn't buy one supply for my coffee sleeves.

You will need:

Felt
Embroidery thread and a needle
A pattern(I searched the web, printed one, altered it a bit)
Imagination

Cut out two pieces of felt with your pattern. Also cut out what shape your going to put on, mine was a heart.

I decided my heart needed a little burlap behind it.

I did sew the burlap on with the machine. Then stitched my heart on with embroidery thread. This is all done on the front piece.

I started stitching my two pieces of felt together at this point. Once I got the bottom stitched together then I placed my button and elastic band(pony tail holder). It just gave me a better idea of placement. Your stitching your elastic with the machine to the back piece of felt only. That way you don't see that stitching on the pretty side(the front).

Sew on your button with embroidery thread.

You can use elastic but hey, a pony tail holder is perfect.

Here is my coffee sleeve on an empty jelly jar mug.

Darn cute if I do say so myself.

This was my second sleeve I made. The stitching is better, you learn as you go.

The best part, the heart is left open at the top. It's a pocket for love notes to your sweetie. I think I'll make one for my Momma and send it to her for Valentines day.

I'll be linking my coffee sleeves to THESE fine linky parties.

I've been wanting to make a coffee sleeve for sometime and this was the push I needed . My opinion is that coffee sleeves make great wrist cuffs as well....dual function and you will always have a sleeve handy when you get a "cuppa" . I would wear this one with pride . Great tutorial !
