These faux silver hearts are so easy and you will fool your friends into thinking you have picked up a new skill as a metal smith.
Place in your oven on the lowest setting to speed up the drying process. Check them frequently, drying time will depend on thickness. I let them dry further a few more days on the counter.
Once they are dry they can be sanded. I sanded them nice and smooth with a medium grit sand paper then a fine grit.
Spray painted them with Rustoleum Bright Coat Metallic Finish.
Once the silver paint was dry, I rubbed on black paint with a damp paper towel making sure to get all the nooks.
Comparable to the likes of this one or this one, even this one. Just don't get it wet!
Have fun.
I'll be linking to all my favorite party places.

Thanks, thanks and thanks! Pefect project for today's snow day. I have to redeem myself from the melted crayon heart project that went terriby wrong (heavy emphasis on MELTED)and this will be just the thing. Much less mess and handy ingredients!! Yours are gorgeous. Here's hoping ours turn out half as nice.
Stopping by via the Wednesday Hops to say hello.
Come on by if you are able to.

Wow - this project makes me want to pull my 11 year old out from school early today just so we can try it. I know she is going to love this one!

Ohmygoodness! Lovin' those! I love the way the silver looks! We are making these hearts tomorrow so I'll have to remember to poke holes in a few and paint them silver!
So cute, great idea and they look like real siver! Visiting from DIY club.
Holy salt dough Batman! These are amazing...I never thought they would be made out of salt dough when I saw them on The Crafty Soiree linky party.

When I saw the pic, I thought they were going to be solder or something. They actually do look like metal.

WAY cool!
m ^..^
What a fun project. My daughter and I will definately make these. Thank you for sharing.
I live in South Africa - where it is super HOTT!!! Do you think you can leave the dough in the sun to dry for a while instead of using the oven??
Those are so pretty, you'd never guess what they were really made out of!
That's just really cool. I'm gonna have to try that. My little girl and I are always on the lookout for handmade gifts we can make for her friends birthdays and Christmas.
This is amazing... Putting it on my to do list now!
Found your idea on Tatertots and Jello- so freakin cool! Great idea!
Wow, these are great! I'd have never thought they were made from dough.

Just awesome, thanks for this great tutorial! When I was a child, I often made little salt dough creations with my mom, so this is a wonderful inspiration to revive this childhood pastime :)
Greetings from Germany!
great tutorial! the pendant looks like a silver one, thanks for sharing such a great idea.
So beautiful! I've got a batch drying in the oven now! I just have two questions.
1. Does the metallic spray paint leave a smell? I'm giving one as a gift, and while I'll tell her its not real silver, I don't want it to smell like spray paint.
2. Thoughts on using a clear coat? I was thinking of using either Outdoor Mod Podge or a clear acrylic spray. Do you think this is even necessary?
Thanks so much for sharing this project!
This is genius! I absolutely love it. I found you through Saturday Soiree. I'm also your newest follower. I'd love for you to visit my blog!
