I cut out the shape with an X-acto knife. Using a cutting board under the foam board so I wouldn't mess up my already messed up table.
Once it was all cut out and I was happy, I gave it a good spray of spray adhesive. I hate spray adhesive! It works well for adhering scrap book paper to the foam board though. Press on your paper, smoothing out any bubbles or wrinkles. If your paper has a pattern make sure it's straight.
With your X-acto knife trim off the excess paper using the edge of the foam board frame as your guide. Working from the back side, works best that way.
On the inside cut a large X in the paper where the opening is. This allows you to fold your paper over the inside edges and make it pretty.
Like this.Using a medium to heavy grit sandpaper you can file the edges of the paper. Any excess you didn't trim perfectly with your knife will be sanded off. It also adds a little "weather" to your paper.
Fold those inside flaps in, trim any excess, secure with glue, and hold in place until dry.Paint the edges of the foam board with any color acrylic paint you like. I used brown. Using your finger to wipe off any excess that gets onto the paper, this gave me some brown up over the edges. Just what I wanted. I also splattered the whole thing.
Glue magnetic strips around the back opening.
Remember when measuring your opening, leave room for the magnet strips to hold your paper in place. In other words, if your paper is regular size 8 1/2" x 11", make your opening a wee bit smaller.
I'll be linking up HERE and to TCB.

These are wonderful! What a great way to display things neatly!
I LOVE these because I have a serious stuff-on-the-fridge aversion, and clutter all my drawers up by sticking it in there. I will definitely be making these!
What a great idea!
I TOTALLY dig this idea.
My problem - Finding any time to do anything other than clean, take care of babies, and take pictures! LOL!
Wow! Love this idea!!! I will immediately have to go buy foam core so that I can make me some. I love how it cleans up and glams all those not-so-pretty necessities we have to keep posted on the fride.

Newly GFC following you (found you through the Follow Along Linky). I'm new to blogging and working on redecorating a condo from scattered-still-looks-like-college-hodgepodge-meets-man-cave and changing it into a cohesive home. One little bit of inspiration and small project at a time. My blog has all sorts of things that make me smile plus I'm cataloging my fashion and home decorating inspiration there as well. And once I've got a few before and after pictures, I'll be sharing my projects.
